When you contact us, we will set up an evaluation and follow-up consultation to discuss the testing. We customize the hour-long evaluation to get a clear sense of the child's strengths, weaknesses, and programmatic needs. We would also like to see copies of other testing you may have had done to further clarifiy which services are needed. Once we have a strong sense of the student's learning profile, we then assess which tutors and programs would be the best match for working with the child. About 1-2 weeks after the screening, Heather White sits down with the parents to present our report, which includes the analysis of our testing, the recommended academic program, and plan for follow-up.

Typically, tutoring sessions are 1 hour long. At times, with younger students, we will recommend starting at 45 minutes and working up to a 1-hour session. Currently, the fees range from $137 - $147 for one hour sessions, and $127-$137 for 45 minute sessions.
-
The number of sessions per week is individualized to each student's needs. The majority of students come 1-2 times per week. During summer months, we often increase the number of sessions in order to ensure that the students are able to maintain their skills.

We conduct comprehensive educational evaluations. This testing includes, but is not limited to, academic achievement testing, testing for memory and learning efficiency, and language testing. We do not conduct psychological, IQ or speech and language testing that could be used to obatin special services from your school district, but are happy to provide referrals to local professionals who will complete such testing. A thorough written analysis of the test results will be provided and follow-up consultations are possible.
Testing is also conducted from time to time, typically about once a year, to assess a student's progress and determine if further tutoring and/or modificdations to the tutoring plan are required. -
Monitoring of a student's progress is individualized based on their educational plan. In general, student progress is reassessed every three to four months through informal observation, progress notes, portfolio review, and informal assessment. Parents are notified regularly of their student's progress and completion of goals.
-
We are happy to consult with classroom teachers. It is our experience that the more collaboratively teachers, parents, and outside specialists work together, the more efficiently a student is able to make progress. However, we will only contact teachers and school personnel at the parent's request, and once the school has been given permission to speak with us.
-
Our goal is to provide services that nurture the student's ability to be an independent learner. We see ourselves as a bridge in that process, rather than a path in which the students receive tutoring indefinitely.
Every student is different, and, as such, every student will require different lengths and intensity of services. We will make recommendations for programming and a logical time for re-evaluation as part of our initial evaluation. Progress will be monitored and ongoing recommendations will be made. -
No. Generally, educational tutoring is not covered by medical insurance. A few large companies may reimburse employees for some or all of the expense of tutoring. You would need to check with your employee benefits department to see if you company has such a program.
-
Tutoring sessions are paid for on an "as you go" basis. Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card and are required at the start of each session. Bills not paid on time are assessed a 10% late fee. Checks returned for insufficient funds will be charged a $35.00 fee for bank charges.
-
We require our tutoring contract to be signed before tutoring sessions begin. There are two choices: tutoring on a reserved status or tutoring on an "ad hoc" status. For reserved status, we will reserve days and times with a specific tutor. The client receives one "free session" card for every 10 paid sessions thus getting a ten percent discount over time. The card can be used if a session needs to be cancelled. If a client does not have a card to use, they must pay for the cancelled session.
For "ad hoc" status, the client must call each week to set up sessions at when a tutor has an available time slot. The times and days may vary from week to week. The client is responsible for paying the cost of any any session that is not cancelled with at least 24 hours notice. -

While we are not a homework help center, we do see part of our goal as helping students to become more efficient learners. Homework is part of their learning process. As such, if homework can be completed as a means of connecting the strategies included in their individualized plan to their daily life, then we are open to helping with homework. However, our first and foremost obligation is to work toward completion of the goals agreed upon in the individualized plan.

Our tutors are specially trained in a wide range of teaching methods that are often not available in other learning settings. This enables us to combine different programs to create an individualized protocol specifically designed to meet your child's learning needs.
Because we are independently contracted, we are able to work closely with schools and other members of the student's learning team to assure that the student is transferring and applying his/her newly acquired skills across all educational settings.
-
We want the students to accept who they are as a learner, to learn the best strategies for their learning style, and to apply those strategies to be the best they can be.

Heather White's Curriculum Vitae is available here. We can provide parent references upon request.

PACE is an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to benefiting a child's entire learning system using best-of-breed techniques from education, psychology, visual and auditory processing approaches. Research has shown an average of 2-3 year improvement in several cognitive areas with only 12-18 weeks of intense, three-day-a-week, one-on-one therapy. We have also documented an average of 2-3 years improvement in the dozens of students we have run through the program in the last year.
Specifically, the PACE program helps develop the core cognitive skills of attention, working memory, processing speed, visual processing, long-term memory, auditory processing, reasoning and logic, and comprehension. All of these skills are essential to helping your child do well in school.
See our PACE website for more details, and ask us for a videotape and evaluation.
